Just as we are emerging from the shutdown, the most common question I get from our patients is: "Is it safe to come back in?" Without hesitation, I say "Absolutely".
In fact, the dental office is probably one of the safer places you can go to.

We, dentists, have always been very OCD with being clean. You have to be in the environment that we work in. The mouth is known to be the biggest harbor for virulent bacteria and we dive right in with instruments that will not aerosolize everything in there, and our faces are about 2 inches away from there. You better bet that we want to protect ourselves from anything and everything that is in there. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is more for me and my staff to protect ourselves and from spreading anything out in the world when we leave. The standards for keeping a dental office clean are exactly that..a standard.  And if we don't meet or exceed them and demonstrate to many many regulatory agencies that we meet/exceed them, we get shut down. "Universal precautions" is a phrase we live by. We assume all patients walk in with the worst and most contagious disease out there, and we use that as a measurement to which we protect ourselves and all our other patients. To date, there has been NO dental office that has served as a source for a COVID-19 outbreak. And I would bet that we will continue that streak. All dentists have been open and practicing the same way since way before the shutdown and there has been ZERO transmission through a dental office and NO dentist or staff member has gotten COVID-19 while working at the office.

My office has taken on the additional safety measure required by the California Department of Public Health and will continue to be disciplined and vigilant in following those protocols and regulations.  We do not take this pandemic lightly, but we are confident in our standards and are ready to adapt to this everchanging situation. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know and we'd be more than happy to have a conversation.  We look forward to seeing you at the office!
