Don't use your mouth as a nutcracker!

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Don't let a broken or chipped tooth ruin your holiday plans.
With all the chewy, hard treats making their Christmas rounds, don't be tempted to use your teeth like a nutcracker! I can't tell you how many broken teeth we get this time of year.  It really is a season for us dentists.  But should something happen to you over the holidays, give us a call and we'll take care of you!  I'm better than Hermie the Elf from that Rudolph cartoon! Happy and safe holiday chewing!!

dental xray | Dentist Glendale Ca YES. When needed though.

Not every single time you come in or just because the insurance pays for it. But generally as a first-time patient, we need a reference of where your oral condition is. There is so much that we as dentists cannot see under the gums, under the bone, underneath old fillings or crowns or restorations. It's irresponsible to do any kind of exam without relevant X-rays. Dosage is an issue...we don't want to zap you unnecessarily or too heavily.

Our X-Ray Technology

Our machines are new and calibrated so that the dosage is kept to the minimal amount needed to get good resolution on the images. But we never do them unless we need to. You can't have a physical at the doctor's office without a blood test, right? They can't just look at you and give you an accurate assessment or diagnosis. Neither can dentists. The x-rays serve to let us know what's "under the hood" and gives me the information to give you the best treatment options and the best treatment with minimal surprises.

Insurance paperwork | Dentist Glendale CAIf you have an FSA/HSA account or dental benefits that go on a calendar year, using them for any kind of dental work is a good idea. Mainly because if you don't use them, you'll lose them.  If you have a lot of dental issues that you'd like to address, then overlapping the treatment and benefits for the end of this year and the beginning of next year when they reset is a good way to maximize the insurance as well.

Call Your Glendale Dental Team!

You should always take care of dental issues with you are ready to, but if you wanted to maximize your benefits, this is a good time to do them.  If you have any questions regarding your insurance or any other benefits, please call us at the office and we can go over them with you to help you understand them better.

Person using credit card on computer | Dentist Glendale CAWe know that everyone has concerns about the cost of dental care. Helping you achieve perfect oral health is our goal, and we’ll be happy to work with you so that you can get the necessary care when you need it.

Of course, we are happy to accept Visa and MasterCard. We also work with two affordable programs that make it easy for you to obtain convenient interest-free financing.

Both CareCredit and Springstone Financial offer customized financing options. The terms offered are slightly different for each program, but in general, they allow you to extend your payment. In most cases, both programs offer interest-free financing if paid within the agreed period of time.

dental paperwork | Dentist Glendale CAWriting off or waiving co-pays is considered insurance fraud by the insurance companies. Why? I have no idea. They set the rules. And this is what they determine. If it were up to me, they would pay 100% of everything.

Dentist in Glendale

But insurance coverage for dentistry hasn't changed for 20+ years!  We still work with them to maximize your benefits, but this is the reason why dentists, in general, cannot write off co-payments.

dental insurance form | Dentist Glendale Ca

Will my insurance cover this?

Now, this is a question we deal with on an hourly basis.  And it’s unfair, but the honest answer is “most likely, but we don’t know for sure.”

Each Case is Different

And it’s NOT for lack of checking and verifying your benefits.  We do that from the very first phone call. And it’s not because we’re too lazy to check and talk with a representative from your insurance.  We do that from the beginning as well.  The amount of time that Bella spends with the insurance companies is incredible.  And we move mountains to make sure we are accurate with the ESTIMATE we present to you regarding how much your insurance is expected to give as a benefit.

The reality is that until we submit a claim to the insurance, we don’t know I they will cover things or not. Even if they say it’s a covered benefit, sometimes they don’t…there’s a lot of fine print not disclosed to us…and thus we don’t know to disclose it to you.  And even with the “pre-authorization” insurance companies recommend you do for anything over 100$, the VERY first sentence at the beginning of those “pre-authorization” we get back is “This is not a guarantee of benefits paid”.  And sometimes, the insurance companies will return a blanket “not a benefit / no coverage” letter just to see if they can get away with it.

I hate insurance companies.  They have not changed their "maximum yearly benefits" of 1000-1500$ since they started back 40-50 years ago...seriously! But we work with them out of benefit for our patients.  And we know them like no one else.

Dr. Kim's Recommendations in 91207

So what is a patient to do?  Well, the best that you can do is go to an office that has a 98% accurate success rate of knowing what the insurance will or will not cover.  Go to an office that will at least let you know the possibility of things not being covered and the worst case scenario so that financial surprises are minimized.  Go to an office that knows the ins and outs of most all the PPO insurances out there like Bella knows.  And be at an office that will help you and work with you should the insurance companies try to pull a fast one and not cover things that we know they should. Dr. Kim’s is that office.

Dental Implants

If you've recently been presented with an aggressive treatment plan for complex or involved dental care like a root canal, dental implant, or braces, it’s a good idea to seek out a second opinion dentist in Glendale, CA.

You’ll either confirm your dentist’s original diagnosis that this is the best treatment for you, or you may learn about an alternative approach that might be a better fit for your needs.

You shouldn’t feel uncomfortable about seeking a second opinion dentist, either. Often, you have to be your own advocate for your oral health care, and you don’t need to blindly accept a diagnosis if you’re not 100 percent comfortable with it.

Be aware that there are differences in dentists and dental offices too. Some have advanced education and training in certain areas or use leading-edge technology that allows them to offer more comprehensive treatment options.

Dr. Lucio Kim is happy to offer second opinions for Glendale, CA patients who would like confirmation about procedures like dental implants, root canals, or full mouth restoration. You may also worry that a procedure was not done correctly by your current dentist, and a second opinion can help put your mind at ease.

If you need a second opinion, call us at (818) 242-3739, and we’ll be happy to schedule a convenient appointment for you with Dr. Kim.

dental insurance in glendale caWe accept any PPO insurance, including Delta, Aetna, and Guardian Premiere. If you have questions about your specific insurance, please don’t hesitate to call our office. We know that figuring out your coverage can often be confusing, and we’re happy to help guide you through the process.

Dental implant diagram | dental implants in glendale caThat's a common question I get about dental implants all the time when we have consultations.  Dental implants cannot get cavities or decay. So that's good.  But dental implants are vulnerable to gum issues.  You need to keep them clean....like they are the only teeth in your mouth kind of clean. Also, the dental implants themselves (the titanium placed into the actual bone as support) need to be placed in a good place.  AND the implant crowns need to be designed correctly as to allow for cleaning and to make sure they are biting down the wrong way.

Dental Implants in Glendale

So it's not just one thing that determines the longevity of dental implants.  Let's talk numbers. Traditional dental "bridges" have a success rate of about 50-65% over a 10-year span. Dental implants have a better success rate over 10 years, about 85-95%. The odds are in your favor.  But like most things, the better you take care of it, the better chance it has for lasting in the long term.

Gum Recession Treatment

Unfortunately (like this actual patient shown in the picture) we need to remove the tooth.

example of gum recession on teeth

Man smiling in blue shirt | Dentist Glendale CaYour gums act like a tight turtleneck type seal around your teeth. This prevents bacteria from seeping in and causing damage.

If your gums “recede” or shrink away from your teeth, that protection is diminished…and the prognosis of your tooth being inside your head over the years goes directly to “poor”.

Over the years, the gum recession may be slightly annoying or not even noticeable. But gone unchecked for a period of time, you can ultimately lose that tooth.

A simple minor gum recession repair surgery is all that is needed to correct the gums and restore that protection to the tooth.  If the damage is too great, a more major (and expensive and more painful surgery I might add) is needed to repair the damage. And if it goes beyond there, then we start talking about dental implants to replace that tooth.

The minor gum procedure is called the Pinhole Technique or a Tunneling Technique. Dr. Kim is well trained in this type of procedure and can let you know what to expect in terms of recovery and surgical results.

two dentists | glendale ca dentistContinuing pain is obviously a sign that there’s a problem that should be addressed as quickly as possible. There are any one of a number of reasons why you’re still experiencing discomfort, so it’s best to find out what’s happening before too much time goes by. Otherwise, the problem will continue and potentially cause severe damage to your oral health.

Second Opinions are Important

Dr. Lucio H. Kim, DDS, is always happy to provide you with a second opinion. You should never hesitate to ask questions because it’s important for you to understand what’s affecting your oral health. Our second opinion consultations are always complimentary, and you are under no obligation whatsoever.

Dr. Kim will talk to you about your concerns, then examine the affected tooth to determine what the problem is and why you’re still experiencing discomfort. He will discuss his findings with you and make appropriate recommendations.

We’ll be completely honest with you and suggest a customized treatment approach that will resolve your problem. At that point, it’s completely up to you as to how you’d like to proceed, and we’ll support you in whatever decision you make.

If you've had a root canal, chances are it will get another infection in it and cause it to fail. So now you are faced with the choice of re-doing the root canal and the restoration on top of it or to get an implant.

Choosing a Procedure

Well, just on pure numbers, getting the implant is in your favor. The survival rates of a root canal done the first time is about 90-95% over 10 years.  Meaning 5-10% will fail over a 10 year period.  The survival rates of a root canal done a SECOND time over a 5 year period drops down to about 75-85%.  The survival rates of an implant in a sufficient amount of bone over a 10 year period go back up to around 90-95%.  So in a pure numbers game, the implant works in your favor.  BUT the big downside is that you need to remove the tooth and replace it with the implant.  Some people have a psychological barrier to that.

Dental Implants in Glendale CA

Financially, the root canal re-do and the implant are similar in cost...at least in my office they are.  If you have a situation where you don't know what to do or if you want me to take a look and let you know more about how things will work in your specific situation, then call the office for a consult and I'll gladly go over things with you.

woman covering mouth | Glendale DentistWell, for one, you aren't the only one.

We Get to Know You First!

The majority of patients either don't like going to the dentist or really really don't like going to the dentist. What makes a difference is Dr. Kim talking with you and finding out more about you and what he can do to make you feel more comfortable. Nothing should hurt with dentistry nowadays. By taking any dental treatment slowly, Dr. Kim is usually successful at "rehabbing" patients back into regular maintenance care.

We Help Quell Anxiety with Sedation Dentistry in Glendale

Now if that doesn't do it for you, then Dr. Kim does offer sedation options in order to get the work done properly and comfortable for you while taking your mind and fears out of the equation. Either "oral" sedation or "IV" sedation with a licensed anesthesiologist. Call the office for a meet and greet consult to chat with Dr. Kim about the options.

Dental office | Second opinions in glendale caShould I get a second opinion?

If you asking yourself this question, then “yes” you should get a second opinion.  It is your right as a patient to be comfortable with the treatment being diagnosed or to find out why something is still bothering you or if you have any other question in general.

If you go to 5 different dentists, they will give you 8 different options or opinions.

Second Opinions at our Glendale Office

Dr Kim will go over your questions patiently, ask questions of his own and accurately let you know what the problem is and what your options are.  Simple.  He is always open to questions, does not get defensive and strives to communicate with you.  Dr Kim encourages second opinions even from his own patients!  Being clear in the patient’s mind is what is the most important.

Dental Crowns & Bridges

Cracked teeth commonly form in the back molars, where the majority of pressure is applied for biting and chewing. There are different levels of severity for cracked teeth, from mild to critical.

As we age, our teeth can start to develop little surface cracks, which are normal and are not typically a cause for concern. These superficial cracks form on the enamel surface from normal wear and tear.

When cracks extend past the surface of the tooth, they may require professional treatment to protect the tooth. Dr. Lucio H. Kim in Glendale, CA, may recommend a root canal to remove any infection and then place a dental crown over the tooth to prevent further weakening. During your regular visits to the dental practice of Lucio H. Kim, DDS, we will monitor your restoration to look for dental abnormalities.

How We Fix a Cracked Tooth

If the tooth can be saved, we will cover it with a dental crown to protect and stabilize it. When the crack has gone beyond the enamel, we may perform a root canal procedure followed by a dental crown. If the crack has gone deep within the tooth, we may need to perform a dental extraction. We do everything we can to save your teeth and repair the damage as much as possible first.

A broken tooth can invite bacteria, food particles, and infection to your tooth without a solid cover. If you have cracked or broken our tooth, your first call should be to our local Glendale emergency dentist.

Do I Have a Cracked Tooth?

Patients with cracked or broken teeth often report sensitivity or pain to hot or cold foods. Biting and chewing can become painful. If your tooth starts to feel painful constantly, especially around the gum line, we recommend coming in to see us as soon as you can.

dental implant | Glendale CA DentistGenerally speaking, anyone with a missing tooth is a candidate for a dental implant! Of course, there are several other important factors that we must take into consideration before we can determine if a dental implant is right for you.

Things to Consider

A major consideration is the presence of sufficient bone in the area where we are planning to place the dental implant. An implant works by integrating with and becoming part of surrounding tissue, so there must be enough bone to support the implanted root.

When a tooth is lost, the bone that surrounds the missing root gradually begins to deteriorate because there is nothing to support it. If this is the case for you, Dr. Kim may recommend bone grafting surgery to build up the area and stimulate your body’s natural ability to regenerate bone in your jaw.

Dental Implants in Glendale

The only way we can know for sure if dental implants are right for you is by scheduling a thorough exam and evaluation with Dr. Kim. While dental implants are preferred by many patients and doctors, we do have other options that may be more appropriate for you.

Please give our office a call and we’ll be happy to schedule a complimentary consultation to get you started.

dentist looking at tablet | Dentist Glendale CA Only if they have cavities or fractures in them, or if you really, really, really want to get rid of them for aesthetic or health reasons. They don't cause any kind of health problems at all --none. Anyone telling you otherwise is really not telling you the whole story (lying!!).

If you do need or want to get them repaired or replaced because of cavities or fractures, you do have the choice of redoing them in silver amalgam or using the "white" composite resin fillings. The ONLY advantage the white fillings have is that they look better. But if you want the old fillings replaced because they have the dreaded mercury in them, then you need to know that you are trading the mercury for bisphenols / BPA....cancer causing chemicals.  And that's scientific FACT.  Not "my opinion", not what "I think" or what "I feel"...it's cold, hard scientific, good old general chemistry FACT.

That being said, there is nothing wrong with either filling...the mercury AS WELL AS the BPA is a non-issue.  Choose what is best for your situation or what you want for your mouth. I am here only to provide objective information and give you the best possible treatment outcome for both kinds of filling materials. If you want something to last longer with fewer issues and a longer track record of success, then get the silver fillings.

If you don't want to see them and want something more esthetic, get the white fillings. Simple.  If you are on the fence or are curious about anything regarding your fillings or your treatment options, call Dr. Kim for a consult and he'll be happy to make sure you leave with more information than questions!

dental crowns | Glendale CA dentistUsually, crowns are needed on teeth that are severely compromised by large fillings, fractures, cavities or root canals.  Especially if the teeth are in the back where the bite pressure is the highest, large fillings may not work longterm and may expose the tooth to fracture that would lead to the loss of the tooth.

Please reach out to our Glendale office if you are experiencing a toothache, a chipped or cracked tooth, or any other urgent issue.

Here is a video update from Dr. Kim describing emergency dental services and virtual consults:

Dr Lucio KimWe know finding a good dentist can be a daunting experience, often by trial and error. And sometimes finding out about that “error” part can be painful, traumatizing and costly.

Dr. Lucio Kim wants to be your new dental home and a dentist that you can truly say that you trust.

The quality of the dental work is a given at the office. There should be no question about the quality of care you are getting. Dr. Kim went to USC dental school, he has been an instructor at UCLA and USC, he stays up to date on all the latest developments in dentistry, is highly trained in all aspects of crowns, fillings, dental implants, and gum recession surgeries. If Dr. Kim knows he cannot help you or do a good job for you, he will absolutely refer you to someone who can do better.

But What Is Important Is That You Know You Are Taken Care Of In All Respects

If you haven’t been to the dentist in a long time --1, 5, 15 years -- and want to get caught up or see what is going on, just know that Dr. Kim’s office is a “no shame” office and doesn’t scold you or berate you for not coming every six months on the dot.  We’re all human. Time goes by, you’ve had bad experiences an are afraid, you’ve moved -- whatever the reason -- it really doesn’t matter. Dr. Kim will address your concerns objectively and will take what we have as a current situation and then move forward.

Attention to detail, not running late, respecting patient’s time, being ultra-clear with financials, walking patients through procedures, not being painful with the shots and being sure you are numb, treating you like a person and listening really sets Dr. Kim apart from all the negative experiences.

KöR Teeth Whitening

teeth whitening kit | dentist glendale ca There is a huge demand for whitening products, and estimates say that consumers spend over a billion dollars annually to attain a whiter smile!

About Store-Bought Whiteners

In general, store-bought whiteners have been found to be safe to use, although it’s important to note that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doesn’t regulate these products. An obvious drawback to using these whiteners is that the process is not supervised by a dentist

This is a problem because your teeth need to be healthy when you whiten. If you have cavities or decay and the whitening gel penetrates these areas, you will experience excruciating pain. On the other hand, if your teeth are healthy, you shouldn’t have a problem with over-the-counter-whiteners other than the fact that they don’t perform as well as professional treatments.

Try Our Glendale Office's Professional Whitening

We highly recommend that you consider a professional whitening for the brightest smile. Our dentist uses prescription-strength KöR whiteners that penetrate deep inside your teeth and lift out the most stubborn stains. This product produces brilliant results that can whiten your teeth by as much as 16 shades in just a few weeks.

If you are thinking about teeth whitening, please call our Glendale dental office to arrange an appointment for a professional cleaning followed by a KöR whitening treatment.

woman getting teeth whitened | Dentist Glendale CAThere really is no comparison between whitening with KöR and using OTC whiteners. KöR is a completely unique type of professional teeth whitening product. There is absolutely no OTC product on the market today that can come anywhere close to results achieved with KöR

The secret behind KoR’s success is in its specially formulated whitener. Unlike OTC products, the whitener seeps into microscopic holes in your dental enamel to lift stubborn stains. OTC products only lift stains from the surface of your teeth.

There are many advantages to choosing KöR over OTC products:

  • KöR Whitening uses a specially formulated to lift stains from deep within your teeth
  • KöR is easy to use – simply wear your custom trays daily for about two weeks
  • KöR produces amazing results. You can expect to see whitening of about 16 shades!
  • KöR is specially formulated to reduce sensitivity experienced with OTC products
  • KöR can remove the most stubborn stains, even those caused by tetracycline use

With proper oral hygiene and occasional touchups, the results achieved with KöR are permanent. No other product can make that claim! With proper oral hygiene and occasional touchups at home, your smile will stay bright and beautiful.

woman getting teeth whitenedAbsolutely. You can whiten your teeth all day, every day for months...and it won't damage your teeth. The whitening agent changes the color, not the composition of your teeth. It does not make your teeth more brittle or weaker. BUT, it does cause temporary sensitivity to cold things. Fairly minor in most cases and goes away when you stop the whitening process. The only things to be careful of are if you are pregnant or nursing or if you have cavities.

Other than that, it works really well and is the most conservative thing to improve your smile. Ask Dr. Kim how it works.  He'll be more than happy to show you how it works in more detail.

Porcelain Veneers

woman smiling | dentist glendale caIf you are considering making changes to the appearance of your smile, two options to consider are porcelain veneers and dental bonding. Both of these options can help to eliminate imperfections such as:

  • Gaps between teeth
  • Stains or discoloration
  • Chipping or fractures
  • Irregularly shaped teeth
  • Excessive wear

Finding Your Right Cosmetic Solution

Dental bonding utilizes composite resin, which is bonded directly to your tooth. This is the same material used for tooth-colored fillings, so it can also be customized to match your teeth. Bonding is non-invasive and tends to be less expensive than other cosmetic procedures.

Veneers are thin layers of porcelain designed and customized to fit over your tooth. A small amount of enamel is removed so the veneer can fit over your tooth and it is bonded onto it. Veneers can also be custom shaded, and they are stain-resistant, which means they don't discolor at the rate of a natural tooth.

The most significant difference between veneers and dental bonding is that porcelain veneers can change the size, shape, and shade of your teeth allowing you to design the smile you've always wanted. Think "Hollywood" smile.

Woman smiling | Dental veneers in Glendale CAPorcelain dental veneers allow us to help patients achieve a beautiful smile by correcting cosmetic flaws. But it’s hard to say exactly how long a veneer will last for any particular patient. A very general estimate is anywhere between 7 and 20 years. However, this is largely dependent on the individual.

Longevity of Veneers

Dental porcelain is very strong and won’t really wear out during your lifetime. Porcelain veneers, when they are done correctly, don’t wear. They’re bonded securely to the surface of your tooth, and, even though they’re super thin, their strength is derived from your teeth.

There are a number of things that can affect the longevity of your veners. Biting down on hard or crunchy foods may chip an edge. If you see a different dentist who uses power polishing equipment, the surface of the veneers can become rough and porous, allowing the porcelain to stain very easily. A veneer can also become chipped or scratched from improper brushing or flossing techniques.

Smile Makeovers in Glendale

All these things affect the lifespan of your veneers. It’s also important to remember that the veneer isn’t a living thing but your tooth is, and its condition may change.

Please call our Glendale office for more information about veneers.

Because emerging information has shown that there is a direct correlation between gum disease and other health concerns in the body that are not dentally related such as low birth weight in babies, diabetes, and even heart disease.

Your Dental Cleaning in 91207

During your cleaning, your hygienist spends time removing the plaque buildup that contributes to many concerns like gum disease, tooth decay, and cavities. Your hygienist can demonstrate proper brushing techniques and also recommend products that can help you to improve your oral health like an antibacterial mouth rinse.

Next, Dr. Kim will perform a thorough examination and screen for concerns like gum disease, tooth decay, cavities, and oral cancer. Detecting these issues early on will ensure that you can treat them with easier procedures. For example, a cavity caught early on can be treated with a dental filling instead of a more invasive procedure such as root canal therapy that is needed once decay has progressed into your nerve and caused an infection.

Woman holding jaw from pain | Dentist Glendale CAIn our Glendale, CA dental office, we commonly treat tooth and jaw pain.

Teeth grinding and clenching while asleep, commonly called bruxism, are among the top reasons people wake with jaw and tooth pain. Left untreated, bruxism can lead to enamel erosion, wear on teeth, cavities, breakage, tooth loss, and is even associated with temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD) or (TMJ).

TMJ means the hinge-like joint that connects your jaw to your skull is not functioning properly. This can cause headaches, jaw pain, neck pain, locked jaw, and clicking sounds in the joint when speaking or chewing.

We offer successful treatments for teeth grinding in Glendale, CA.

Our top Glendale dentist creates custom nightguards, which have saved a lot of smiles. These comfortable nighttime appliances gently thrust your lower jaw forward to prevent grinding and clenching during sleep.

Our custom nightguards in Glendale, CA are known for ease of wear and provide a gentle remedy to help you get the sleep you need without the pain.

dental xray | Dentist Glendale Ca YES.

Either "oral" sedation or "IV" sedation with a licensed anesthesiologist. Call the office for a meet and greet consult to chat with Dr. Kim about the options.

Adult Orthodontics

Man with braces | Dentist Glendale CAThis is one of the most common questions we hear from orthodontic patients! If you’re a busy adult who’s thinking about orthodontic treatment, of course you want to know just how much and for how long it’s going to impact your life!

Book a Consultation to Know Your Exact Case

Unfortunately, until we meet with you, it’s hard to say with any accuracy how long your treatment will take. Keep in mind that every adult in who has orthodontic treatment starts with unique needs. It is only during the planning stage that Dr. Lucio Kim will be able to tell you generally how long he predicts your treatment will last.

But both our adult orthodontic systems are designed to move your teeth as quickly as possible. For some people, treatment with Inman Aligners can take as little as six weeks and PowerProx Six Month aligners reliably take about six months.

Orthodontic Consultations in Glendale

The only way to know how long your treatment might last is by arranging an appointment with Dr. Kim. He will evaluate your needs and recommend the approach that will achieve the best outcome in the shortest amount of time.

If you would like to learn more about how Glendale orthodontics can transform your life, please call our office to arrange a consultation.

Kim.

braces in glendaleThe good news is that today you have more options than ever for correcting a crooked smile! We offer two excellent adult orthodontic treatments that straighten teeth quickly and comfortably.

Your Orthodontic Options

Inman Aligners, a recent orthodontic innovation, are an affordable, discreet option for straightening the teeth that show when you smile. Using an efficient patented process, Inman Aligners gently reposition your front teeth in a matter of weeks. Since the goal isn’t to straighten all your teeth or correct a misaligned bite, treatment is quick and efficient. Best of all, Inman Aligners are removable for eating, brushing, and flossing.

If you want to improve your appearance for a big event or simply want a more beautiful, healthy-looking smile, PowerProx Six Month Braces can easily help you achieve your goal. By focusing treatment on the teeth that show when you smile and not making changes to your dental bite, we can straighten your teeth comfortably in as little as six months.

Both Inman Aligners and PowerProx are very effective adult orthodontic solutions. Which option we choose will depend on your needs and goals, and we’ll guide you through the process to find the one that is just right for you. Give us a call today.

tooth and first aid kit | Dentist Glendale CaIf you are having a dental emergency, we make every effort to get you in as soon as possible. Usually, it is the same day!

Emergencies usually can't wait.

If you have extreme pain, swelling, can't open your mouth, increasing pain that doesn't go away for a couple of days, if you fell or hit your mouth and teeth on something and just want to have your lips, teeth, and gums checked out...this is what we call emergencies.  If the tooth has been sensitive on and off for a month or two, if the gums are tender on and off for a month or two, if you were in an accident last year and want to get things checked out....not really categorized as an emergency, but you still should get the situation checked out.

Emergency Dentist in Glendale

If you find yourself in a different state or part of the country, give me a call and I can direct you what to do.  If you call after hours and need to leave a message (which is rare b/c usually I pick up the calls after the office is closed) then we will get back to you usually that same night or first thing in the morning.

If you're still not sure if it's an emergency, call us and we can triage it for you as well!

dental crowns | Dentist Glendale CaAfter you notice that your tooth feels different, you realize that you’ve actually lost or broken a dental crown. Damage to a dental restoration, tooth, or appliance always warrants a call to your dentist. Many situations can wait for an appointment, including breaking a dental crown. But here’s some guidance on whether you should visit an emergency dentist in Glendale.

Signs of a Dental Emergency

Sharp pieces. When you assess the area, feel for any sharp or loose pieces still attached to the tooth. You can gently remove pieces that appear to be dangling to avoid swallowing them. If there are jagged or sharp edges you can’t remove and which might cut your tongue, you may need emergency dentistry.

Pain. You may or may not feel pain or sensitivity with a broken dental crown, depending on whether there’s any pulp remaining in the tooth. If the pain is not severe, you can probably schedule an appointment for the next day or two. Take over-the-counter pain reliever to help reduce discomfort.

Bleeding. It’s always a good idea to call your dentist right away if an area of your mouth won’t stop bleeding. If a blow to your mouth caused the dental crown to dislodge, that could be a dental emergency.

Tooth with stethascope | Glendale CA DentistIf you have a toothache, you know something’s not right. It’s natural to worry, but knowing what a dental emergency is can help. While you should call your dentist any time you have a toothache here is a checklist for deciding whether to look for emergency dentistry in Glendale.

Dental Emergency Checklist

  • Severe or increasing pain. Extreme pain that won’t stop and seems to be getting worse can be a sign that your tooth needs immediate attention. If you feel a pimple-like area in your mouth, it might be an abscess. Your dental office can determine whether it’s an dental emergency.
  • Trauma. Feeling a crack in your tooth or dental restoration is always concerning and warrants a call to your dentist. But if you fell, had a sports accident, or hit your mouth another way, there’s a chance you need emergency dentistry. Call 911 if you suspect bodily injury.
  • Bleeding. If your gums or tooth won’t stop bleeding, call your dentist to find out if you need to come in right away. Use a clean gauze pad on the area for 10 minutes to slow or stop bleeding.
  • Swelling. Gums around a tooth that are inflamed may need immediate attention.
  • Fever. If you have a fever that you believe is related to infected teeth or gums, call your Glendale dentist right away.
