What's new with dental implants?

Dental Implants in Glendale CA, Dr. Lucio H. Kim, DDS

So what is new with dental implants nowadays?

Since they were first utilized in the 1950s, the materials and techniques have come such a long way to give patients a better and more predictable way to replace missing teeth. The materials have gotten better. Instead of commercially pure titanium, now the dental implants are made of titanium alloy.  Instead of general anesthesia to place them in patients, we can now just use the same numbing that we do for crowns and fillings (most of the time). We now use gloves! (We never used to).

We can use your own stem cells to accelerate healing and improve outcomes and decrease postoperative infections and failures. The crowns we place on top of the implants can now be 3D printed with the help of optical scanners and CAD-Cam technology.  We use 3D scans of your jaw to perform the surgery virtually in order to avoid any surgical surprises on the day of the actual procedure. From those scans, we can also fabricate surgical guides to accurately place the implant exactly where we want it to go.  Makes the surgery faster and more predictable.

If bone needs to be grown or augmented, we can use other sources instead of having to harvest bone from your own jaw or other areas of your body.  While this list isn't comprehensive, it just illustrates how far we have come as dentists to give patients a better option.  Dr. Kim does use all of these latest, PROVEN techniques to make dental implants an easier procedure for all patients.
