I never liked Bush, but this makes me like him a little bit more....

American Flag Glendale CA, Dr. Lucio H. Kim, DDS

I usually don't get too political in any kind of public forum, but with all this Trump nonsense (#NeverTrump) I think it's important to emphasize what is at stake and what kind of person you want to be commander in chief....

Media says that Flossing may not be of any use at all!

Flossing is Important! Glendale CA, Dr. Lucio H. Kim

There's been a story going around that essentially says flossing is of no use. If you haven't seen it:

Importance of Flossing

In all frankness, this is crap.  And at the very least irresponsible for the Associated Press to even run with the story.  It's the equivalent of saying "Cigarettes: Not that bad after all!"  The need for flossing and it's efficacy in the removal of plaque/bacteria/food particles has been demonstrated time and time again.  My practice is built around prevention and the MAIN part of that is FLOSSING.  I don't know how much more I can stress how wrong this article is.  On the plus side, if this story gets more ...

Teeth Grinding in Glendale CA, Dr. Lucio H. Kim, DDS

I get this all the time. Patients don't think that they grind/clench their teeth. And then I show them pictures where their teeth look like they were used to stop Fred Flinstone's car or multiple fracture lines across the teeth or fillings or crowns have made the tooth look like they are ready to explode in slow motion.  Then I hear "those are MY teeth"?!?!  But this is understandable. The damage happens over a long period of time very slowly and when people clench/grind, they are usually sleeping.  So I get being incredulous about this condition.  But more and more the damage from "bruxism" is keeping me busy..fractured teeth and ...

Hidden Sugar

Sugar and Oral Health in Glendale CA, Dr. Lucio H. Kim DDS

As dentists, we are fighting a losing battle with the sugar industry.

The number of money companies like CocaCola put out for advertising is no match for the PSA blurbs by dental associations.  Sodas, energy drinks, energy bars, granola bars, cereals, "health - organic" products are pumped full of sugar.  And this puts us a health care practitioners at a severe disadvantage b/c how can we compete?  The FDA helps a bit with the labeling.  But then you have to do some serious math in order to find out how much the sugar content impacts you.  Some health cereals are as much as 55% sugar!

How Do We Fight Sugar Decay?

So ...

What's new with dental implants?

Dental Implants in Glendale CA, Dr. Lucio H. Kim, DDS

So what is new with dental implants nowadays?

Since they were first utilized in the 1950s, the materials and techniques have come such a long way to give patients a better and more predictable way to replace missing teeth. The materials have gotten better. Instead of commercially pure titanium, now the dental implants are made of titanium alloy.  Instead of general anesthesia to place them in patients, we can now just use the same numbing that we do for crowns and fillings (most of the time). We now use gloves! (We never used to).

We can use your own stem cells to accelerate healing and improve outcomes and decrease postoperative ...
