In dental bonding, a composite resin material (tooth-colored plastic mixture filled with silicon dioxide) is applied to the tooth and then sculpted and shaped to cover damaged areas or to fill in gaps. This material comes in several shades so it can be matched to the natural color of your tooth. Composites are not only used for restoring decay, but are also used for cosmetic improvements of the smile by changing the color of the teeth or reshaping teeth. Bonding is appropriate for correcting minor imperfections. If you have structural problems with a tooth or problems with multiple teeth, we recommend porcelain veneers or other restoration procedures.
